Hope everyone's Thanksgiving was full of merriment, taters, and booze! If you didn't ingest enough butter over the past week Fouk's got ya covered wit the release of their Butterfunk Ep on their label Outplay. This is the first full release from the duo on the label since it's start. Of course, there's a track or two here and there on a couple compilations released over the years and both Daniel Leseman and Junktion have released projects as solo artists too. Get ya body moving to Organ Freeman and chill out with Winter to get a taste for now and if you like you can hit up Juno to grab it.
Also, speaking of Juno, I was on there appeasing my deep needs recently and found a killer release from Roman Rauch. The first on the imprint Life is for Living, it's got a slamming deep disco tune 'This Is the House' on one side sure to help get the shy ones off the wall for some soul in their life. The flip is a steady one to bang once you've got them invested, 'Alright, Alright' lets the keys speak on it's behalf before blowing your mind with some horns. Don't say no, peep and enjoy y'all!
Well, after trying to avoid consumerism last weekend, cyber Monday came along and eviscerated my wallet with laser-precision. I can's say I'm mad, but now the wait has begun; BRING ME MY GEMS! I'll get on that pre-order kick while I wait, particularly this beastly EP from Eversines, the wacky, FSOL style video for Transition Portal is a good starting point for all the groovy wonkiness contained within. Switching gears and flipping the funk, Filth & Smell put out the cool-pastor approved Raelettes' Boogie and it's gonna get your office party all sweaty.
I'm not one who usually participates in Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, but this year was a different story. One of those scores I was lucky enough to get for a discounted price, was the recently repressed Sunshine album by Junior Byron, by way of Favorite Recordings. I can't even begin to describe the magic packed into the grooves of that record, trust me, just grab it before the sharks do! Rolling with the disco theme, I came across Funky Espresso's first release on Berlin Bass Collective and was pretty much sold as soon as I heard the name and saw the cover art. the Born For The Night EP boasts all original and live production, with Latin and French flavors laced throughout the four track EP. Cop that disco heat over here. Aside from those picks, I managed to grab a few compilations from West End and Nervous Records, alongside a bunch of releases I'd been stoked on this year but hadn't gotten yet and a few X-mas gifts. That just about does it for me this week though, but don't forget about the new Tugboat Edits from Star Creature out on wax this week! I wasn't familiar with Meowsn until this release, but shoo wee am I a fan now. Freak the funk, don't fake it, over here for that one, and stay positive out there.
