Feeling the resurgence of a fave little late night mischievous tune this week, Ron Basejam's 'Late Night Hunt' is up to no good but will have you shimmying those shoulders and trying to sneak feels if you're not careful. It's THE highlight in a collection of Unreleased Edits and Reworks he released a couple years ago. Go peep it right here. Along with that dug out some great Local Talk business from Tim Vitá, Oliver Gehrmann, and Xaver Hirsch from the ever revolving abundance of warehouse finds available via their Bandcamp. For serious though, since like last year they dig new and old records and test pressings out for sale and I'm not mad about it. Gonna leave you with some good old fashioned Mario Reyes featured on a great comp thats up on PB Vinyl highlighting golden times for DJ culture and open minded club goers in Hamburg at Front Club. The really fantastic mixes are available for listens too here & here (just follow the preview under private link). Don't sleep y'all!! I imagine they'll sell fast.
As we wind down summer a bit, and hold on to that outside time, its time to look for jams that will support your al-fresco lifestyle with no judgements. That's why you need 'A Summer Oasis' from ZuluMafia, they gonna snuggle up with all the warm fun and buzzed-shuffle you need under that pergola! Similarly, like coffee with rum and ice in it, Cateran's 'Crow' is gonna mix up frenetic low end with chilly glassy synth lines and get a little wiggle going. Finishing off with one of my favorite genres, that of durderduhdudududuh. I can't get enough of short arp baselines, and I DON'T HAVE TO DAD! Check out 'RKiNn' a prime example from Ross McCormack which appears on Modula Records 1st VA comp! Keep smiling folks. X
Summer may be on its way out, but that doesn't mean the soundtrack has to stop with it, thankfully Mareh Music's Barefoot Boogie series recently came through with their 8th installment of proper Brazilian re-edits. Heavy hitters include Jacques Renault and Trepanado, one half of Selvagem, so best get to steppin' if you want some warm weather funky tunes in your life, peep that release here. Other than that, I didn't get a chance to mention a sweet reissue I picked up last week, a hard to come by jazz funk and soul record from the Nineteenth Whole by the name of Smilin'. Big ups to Tidal Waves Music for gettin' this in my life, cause it's as smooth as can be, listen to Karriem Riggins' dad Emmanuel work that organ on this track! Till next week y'all.
