Leave it to Mr. Scruff to have my heart full of joy and emotion after his Dekmantel set this past weekend. Along with loads of others including Palm Trax shutting it down and the excellent debut of Carista it was a whirlwind of talent per usual and undeniably entertaining witnessing music lovers all connect in one space. Continuing with the excitable, dug up some sounds by a fellow that goes by Telfort. Three self released records equally displaying range and consistency are all available digitally on his personal Bandcamp along with the lovely EP he did for Lionoil Industries a month ago. It all currently has my neck and pelvis in motion so I'll hop off till another seven days from now.
JPB (That dude up there 👆), turned me on to this outstanding 'Snod Hill' EP from FYI Chris, the highlight, Pas takes samples from a creepy old British nuclear fallout preparedness video. It's so sublime, and twisted grab it now. Jesse Bru is on the move right now, he's popping up all over the place, getting the plaudits that he richly deserves! His jazzy af 'Ships In The Night EP' lifts dusty smokey grooves, and pilfers dialogue snippets and creates a viscous swampy mix that will funk you kindly. I'm a big fan of 8-Bit records, 'tech-house' is the latest genre that gets misused to describe lowest common denominator trash that floods through Beatport, and spammy soundcloud accounts (see previously 'deep house', and 'progressive house') , but 8 Bit is the real deal, and what the glorious marriage of techno and house should sound like! As is the case with the "Black Coffee Ep' from Gorge & Homm, which perfectly blends consciousness altering low frequencies and sweeps with a that swing you just can't miss. Alright Away With You!
Alright y'all, it's no question, Carista's set from Dekmantel is The One. Based in the Netherlands, the DJ, label boss and curator might have only had an hour, mid day set, but that didn't stop her from delivering an absolutely insane mix of house, techno and uk garage records. She quite literally had the crowd in the palm of her hands, with almost everybody in sight exhibiting two moods, work and pure joy. I dare anybody to try and stay still during this mix, peep the whole thing here. Aside from that stellar set, Jose Marti dropped a white label gem on us recently, full of bright, latin and funk inspired sounds, check it out on Presente's bandcamp. Till next week friendos, I gotta watch the rest of Mr. Scruff's set now!
