Happening upon pleasant surprises is such a, well, pleasant thing. Like finding easily accessible back stock on Juno for instance! I'd had my fingers crossed that Aaron Dae would have spare copies of early-ish Razor-N-Tape releases like the illustrious red Backchat 10" from Other Lover when he swung down a couple weeks ago to serve up a slice of NYC for us. A hazy disco cut that's an undoubtable favorite of mine for some time now. His offering selection was limited to very recents like Cody Currie and Al-Tone plus after missing a chance on Juno once prior I'd lost a little hope. The weekend passed and a little checking up was happening on some titles I'd been keeping my eye on, ALAS, there it was just hanging out looking all inconspicuous and stuff! The digging didn't stop there either though, with an itch to spruce up the deep decorative shrubs that compliment the landscaping at my house (see what I did there?) I found the first release and pressing from Wolf Music Recordings. It's got some handy touch ups from The Revenge and Greymatter of Atmosfear's "Dancing in Outer Space," the soul sending, stripped down Greymatter remix of KRL's "Remember Donny" and that lovely beatdown affair sure to please any hip hop head that is "Recession Beat." A real gem of a record that deserves a listen to. Y'all be easy and I'll catch ya next week. PEACE.
I managed to get a copy of Madteo, Voracious Culturizer this week, it’s pretty special, can’t wait to launch that disco mortar at the next show. In trying to find something to balm my crotchety soul in the work day, I happened up this mix by Saand. Oh man, the pure unadulterated vacation vibes were exactly what I needed! His productions are great too, check out this tribal goodness. Sinusoidal by Olvap on this FA>lE various comp got me feeling all wonky! Those in need of a good old dose of sass should check out, X by Reda Dare and listen to slay queen Rosie Perez talk house music on the Stretch & Bobitto podcast ‘What’s Good’. Finally, Solid State Disco have this gem from Adrian...b coming out next month, and it’s a beast!
Space junk more like great stuff am I right? I'm not proud of my dad jokes, but am proud to bring you all some sounds and sights that I heard and saw this week. Starting off, I was excited to come across a relatively new production duo based out of Copenhagen, Slim Hustla, and the equally as new white label, Had To Do It. I'm a complete sucker for deep, dancey stuff, and this release shows no signs of disappointing there. Add in some RnB/hip-hop vibes, and I'm sold, check that EP out here. Venturing down south, Whiskey Pickle recently pinned Hotmood for an EP that will be coming out late next month. the Discotheque Dependencies EP is sure to give you your fix of dancefloor heat. Not to mention, Star Creature is still doing their Mexico Bundle deal in support of the recent earthquake, so consider supporting a great cause and great musicians over here. To round off my list, I've got another Dekmantel set to share, this time it's Umfang and Volvox's back to back set. I'll admit I didn't know anything about the Discwoman all-stars before watching the set, and that I'm very ignorant when it comes to techno, but I still find myself revisiting this set a lot. They really go across the board in terms of their track selection, in the less 90 minute long set you can expect to hear classic rave, pounding acid basslines, electro laced leads, depressingly dark, irresistibly catchy sounds, great blends and minimal mixer work. Check that source of inspiration over here and stay positive friendos. Till next time!
