I spent a lot of time in my early teens retreating to my off-brand walkman (personal stereo, if you’re nasty). All kinds of tapes were thrown in, but there was a long period where I’d lean heavily on some rave and hardcore tapes I’d procured. Some legit and some pretty poppy but with all the major signifiers present; pitched vocals, breakbeats, sirens and scary chords! Being too young to have experienced the northern English rave scene in person, this was my access point and I’m time-warped instantly back to this era when I hear releases like Credit 00’s ‘Deep In The Jungle’. Uncanny Valley has an amazingly varied back catalogue, pushing out fuzzy drums and nostalgic textures, they manage the feat of consistency along with surprise with every release. Pick for me from this EP is ‘True 2 The Gehm’ with it’s slightly more subtle take on ethereal ravey breaks. Grab it now!
